RE:  NJCM LEGISLATIVE URGENT. ALERT.  CALL YOUR LEGISLATORS TODAY AND ASK FOR SUPPORT OF SENATE BILL S-330/ASSEMBLY BILL A-3804, RESTORATION OF ENERGY TAX RECEIPTS TO MUNICIPALITIES

Dear Mayor,

This is our best, and maybe last, opportunity to achieve Restoration of Energy Tax Receipts to Our Municipalities —- but only if we all act NOW!!!

The NJ Conference of Mayors is asking that you:

  • CALL DIRECTLY your Assembly Members to SUPPORT Assembly Bill A-3804, and Request They Become Co-Sponsor of A-3804  (by contacting Speaker and Primary Bill Sponsor Assemblyman Benson).
  • Call, Text, Email Governor’s Office to SUPPORT A-3804/S-330 as part of Budget.

A-3804/S-330 increase by $331 million the distribution to municipalities from the Energy Tax Receipts Property Tax Relief Fund over two years.  Taxes on gas and electric utilities were originally collected by the host municipalities, and when the State made itself the collection agent for these taxes, it promised to return the proceeds to municipalities for property tax relief. As Mayors, we know that these funds belonging to our municipal governments have been improperly skimmed for years by state government to plug its budget, and the restoration of this funding to NJ municipalities is long overdue.
